CANADIAN SOLAR 1, CANADA
Canadian Solar Completes 8.5 Megawatt (AC) Eastern Ontario Solar Farm and Sells the Turnkey Solar Package to International Investment Firm.
Canadian Solar 1 (CS1), an 8.5 megawatt (AC) solar farm near the town of Napanee in Eastern Ontario began transmitting electricity into the Ontario grid August of 2012. The solar project provides enough clean solar energy to power more than 1,200 homes and offsets 2656 tons of carbon every year, the equivalent of planting 1,000 trees. The enormous solar plant not only generates renewable solar energy, but is the product of an industry that has generated hundreds of new jobs in the Ontario market in the past few years.
Canadian Solar Solutions Inc., a division of Canadian Solar, was the project supplier, developer, EPC, and construction financier of the project - which was subsequently sold to Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. In addition, Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. was awarded a 20-year contract to provide operations and maintenance services, ensuring the long-term performance of the solar plant. The project is an excellent example of how Canadian Solar’s total solar solutions provide customers with the benefits of a highly skilled team of professionals that manage the full scope of solar project services - along with the convenience of providing project-ready, premium quality solar modules and installation equipment.
Modules for the CS1 plant were supplied by Canadian Solar’s Canadian manufacturing facility, a state-of-the-art facility that uses leading-edge technology and processes. The world-class facility builds some of the highest quality poly-crystalline and mono-crystalline solar modules on the market, and currently has a production capacity of 500 megawatts.
